Bentley’s ConstructSim incorporates material availability, costs, construction schedules and labor management into one package, making construction projects easier to coordinate, according to the vendor. (Bentley acquired Common Point, the company that originally developed ConstructSim, in 2008.)
The engineering software uses a virtual plant model to relate CAD models, schedules, materials and other factors to each other. One perk this creates is 4-D Schedule Simulation, which connects the project schedule to model components and simulates various work scenarios, according to the vendor. ConstructSim can also monitor the progress of projects, display progress visually and keep user-defined lists of things like material shortages and bills. The engineering CAD model can also be reorganized based factors specified by the user, which makes it easier to move from construction by areas to systems for testing and turnover, the vendor said.
Other notable features of ConstructSim include virtual walk-throughs of models, the ability to track design changes back to models, crane and scaffold simulations and pipe and steel work packaging.
