Personal Computer Manufacturer to Replace Disparate Systems and Integrate Global Supply Chain, CRM and ERP Systems on SAP NetWeaver®
ORLANDO, Fla. - May 16, 2006 - SAP AG (NYSE: SAP) today announced that Lenovo, the world’s third-largest manufacturer of personal computers, has selected the SAP® for High Tech solution portfolio to transform and differentiate its core business processes in support of the company’s aggressive global growth strategy. To further drive its competitive edge, Lenovo chose SAP as its business innovation enabler. The announcement was made at SAPPHIRE® ’06, SAP’s international customer conference, being held in Orlando, Florida, May 16-18.
Following the company’s 2005 acquisition of the IBM Personal Computing Division, Lenovo conducted a comprehensive audit of company-wide software solutions. Integrating data and standardizing on the SAP NetWeaver® platform helps provide Lenovo the critical business capabilities necessary to respond to customer demand with agility, innovate quickly and foster efficient global trading relationships — elements key to the company’s success.
“Our focus from the outset has been on how we can serve our customers better and SAP is helping us as we transform our business,” said Steven J. Bandrowczak, senior vice president and chief information officer, Lenovo. “As a global technology leader, we have the global manufacturing network necessary to be a low-cost leader, built-in innovation centers and a strong reseller channel network. The addition of SAP’s software solutions will complete the suite of components necessary to help us optimize our core processes and make a difference that our customers will see.”
In the global personal computing market, customer loyalty, reduced operational costs and global trade efficiencies are key to long-term success. Computer makers thus need flexible IT platforms to help them bring relevant new product innovations to customers faster; sense and respond quickly to service issues; identify real-time fluctuations in supply and demand; and comply and monitor regional trade rules and regulations. Powered by the SAP NetWeaver platform and built to enable the business agility and flexibility of enterprise service-oriented architecture (SOA), SAP’s integrated solution set for high-tech companies will enable Lenovo to access key data in real-time for more informed decision-making and to reap cost savings through increased efficiencies across the company’s core business processes.
Under the agreement, Lenovo will implement a wide range of software from the SAP for High Tech portfolio in a phased rollout for approximately 15,000 users in 138 countries and company sites. In addition to mySAP™ Business Suite applications for customer relationship management (CRM), financials, human capital management and supply chain management including advanced planning and optimization, Lenovo is tapping SAP® xApps™ composite applications for cost and quotation management, global trade services and real-time shop floor manufacturing integration and intelligence.
“Like SAP, Lenovo is a company that is working today to create and deliver the innovative solutions that will define business success and growth in the future,” said Ray Homan, head of the High Tech industry business unit, SAP. “Companies with such great ambitions cannot wait for software integration promises. They are choosing SAP because they need solutions that can get them up and running quickly for immediate business benefits on a reliable, safe and innovative path toward the future.”
Lenovo, headquartered in Raleigh, North Carolina, kicked-off its SAP implementation in February and plans to go live with the software later in the year.
