U.S. Postal Service Selects mySAP™ Business Suite to Improve Operational Efficiency, Increase Customer Satisfaction and Drive Innovation
WASHINGTON, D.C. - August 23, 2004 - SAP America, Inc., a subsidiary of SAP AG (NYSE: SAP), today announced the United States Postal Service’s selection of SAP® solutions to streamline business processes for its human resources system. The U.S. Postal Service employs one-third of the civilian workforce of the federal government and is one of the world’s largest employers, with more than 700,000 employees. SAP will implement mySAP™ Business Suite to replace the 25-year-old system developed by the U.S. Postal Service. SAP Professional Services was selected as the implementation partner to assist the U.S. Postal Service in delivering a successful project.
“This project will enable us to modernize and centralize our human capital management capabilities and help us provide improved access to information for our employees through an integrated IT platform,” said Robert L. Otto, chief technology officer, United States Postal Service. “The desired result of the project is to leverage technology to provide more value to our most valuable asset, our employees. The software will also provide management with the flexibility to manage and control costs.”
With 50 postal organizations globally as customers, SAP’s expansive industry knowledge enables postal companies to integrate business processes and valuable information to increase visibility across the organization and enhance the customer experience while lowering the total cost of ownership. The U.S. Postal Service selected SAP as its enterprise human resources solution following a multi-year assessment of the functional, technical and Web-enabled capabilities of SAP software.

As part of its selection of mySAP Business Suite, the U.S. Postal Service also licensed SAP NetWeaver™, the open integration and application platform, to deliver people- related business processes, support flexible business strategies and reduce IT complexity. Using SAP NetWeaver, the U.S. Postal Service will be able to aggregate and analyze information across the enterprise to better identify, train and deploy the best people to do the job of delivering the mail and maintaining superior customer service. mySAP Business Suite will provide visibility into the entire value chain of the U.S. Postal Service providing management with flexibility to respond to the changing competitive environment.
