Samsonite Selects SAP and Takes Advantage of SAP’s Safe Passage Program to Transform Its Global Retail and Wholesale Operations
DENVER, Colo. - June 14, 2005 - SAP AG (NYSE: SAP) today announced that Samsonite Corporation (OTC Bulletin Board: SAMC.OB), one of the world’s largest manufacturers and distributors of luggage, will transform its retail and wholesale lines of business systems by transitioning its solution environment to mySAP™ Business Suite and leveraging SAP’s industry-specific functionality. Samsonite joins a growing list of companies that are using the SAP Safe Passage Program—a tailored package of solutions, technology and incentives—to migrate to SAP, the world’s leading and most experienced business software solution provider.
Samsonite will leverage SAP’s industry-leading retail, consumer packaged goods manufacturing and financials solutions to enhance its critical business processes, including global sourcing, distribution, transportation/logistics, product innovation, inventory visibility, financial transparency and compliance. Samsonite will also use SAP® Apparel and Footwear Solution (SAP AFS), which provides functionality to help manufacturers manage the myriad sizes, styles and colors inherent in the consumer packaged goods arena. Beginning in January 2006, the company will begin its migration from its current JD Edwards solution environment to mySAP Business Suite, which will support Samsonite employees at sites around the world, including its global headquarters in Denver, Colorado. Samsonite distributes its products in more than 100 countries.
“SAP’s industry focus, software fit and wide-ranging hosting and implementation services will enable us to integrate and globalize our retail and wholesale business, reduce our IT costs and deployment risk and enhance our ability to compete in the global marketplace,” said Nick Macera, CIO, Samsonite Corporation.
“We look forward to building a strong partnership with Samsonite, to help the company realize its global strategic objectives and execute on its mission of providing innovative solutions for the traveling world,” said Bill McDermott, president and CEO, SAP America, the North American subsidiary of SAP AG. “Companies have a mandate to grow their businesses now. The SAP Safe Passage Program offers companies, such as Samsonite, an affordable way to migrate to a new solution environment to begin the process of innovating their businesses today.”
SAP Safe Passage Program Helps Customers Plan for the Future and Manage for Today Introduced in early 2005, the SAP Safe Passage Program provides companies a flexible and affordable “safe passage” away from the uncertainties arising from Oracle’s acquisition of PeopleSoft, JD Edwards and Retek solutions to an SAP software platform that will help them adapt, innovate, grow and sustain a competitive advantage in today’s fast-changing economy. SAP Safe Passage offers a combination of SAP best-in-class solutions, the SAP NetWeaver™ platform and a program of tailored incentives that help ensure protection and maintenance support of existing software investments. The program also enables companies to plan and migrate their solutions when they are ready, to meet their individual business requirements.
