SAP Partner Ecosystem Drives IT Innovation Based on Industry Standards

Industry Standards Initiative Leverages SAP NetWeaver® to Protect IT Investment for Customers in 25 Global Industries by Reducing Integration Costs and Increasing Flexibility

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - October 17, 2005 - Further demonstrating market leadership and the maturity of the SAP NetWeaver® platform, SAP AG (NYSE: SAP) today announced that its partner ecosystem will base new solution development across more than 25 industries on accepted industry standards. With leadership and guidance from SAP, independent software vendors (ISVs) will create certified industry-specific solutions that seamlessly interoperate with business processes based on standards, helping customers reduce risk, time to value and costs associated with integration. More than 125 ISVs have already committed to the SAP initiative, demonstrating their dedication to bringing customers the next wave of innovation while reducing their own development and integration costs. The announcement was made at the APICS 2005 International Conference and Exposition, an annual event for the Association for Operations Management, being held in Kansas City, Missouri, October 16 – 18.

“Today’s companies are faced with many challenges including dynamic market conditions and limitations on available information for decision making,” said Greg Gorbach, vice president, ARC Advisory Group. “To remain competitive, these companies need greater business flexibility. Interoperability based on industry standards is a key step in achieving the flexibility needed to survive and actually grow market share in the emerging collaborative marketplace.”

Part of the “Powered by SAP NetWeaver” partner program, this new initiative combines the certification of ISVs building new solutions on the SAP NetWeaver platform with the additional requirement of integrating key industry standards. Focused initially at manufacturing industry standards, SAP’s program will extend across key industry segments where the adoption of industry standards has already helped customers connect with trading partners. Partners in the program participate in an industry-specific interoperability certification program which utilizes widely accepted industry standards—such as CIDX, PIDX, RosettaNet, ISA-S95 and OAG in manufacturing, SWIFT in banking and ACORD in insurance—to establish collaborative business processes supporting transactions within and between industries.

Pilot partners Apriso Corporation, CBS, cSoft Group, EntComm, iBASEt, Invensys Wonderware, Rex Process Consulting, WARP IT and Wellogix are already near completion of this new interoperability certification granted by SAP. In this initiative, SAP certifies the integration of partner-built SAP NetWeaver Exchange Infrastructure content packages to mySAP ERP™ and other SAP software applications. ISVs also build business packages for SAP NetWeaver Portal as an additional integration point for their solutions.

“Getting two best in class technology platforms like ArchestrA and SAP NetWeaver communicating is key to driving manufacturing productivity,” said Tim Sowell, vice president, Wonderware - ArchestrA Product Strategy. “This is the true value of the industry-specific program that SAP has launched as it accelerates the adoption of standards which in turn enables seamless integrated business processes and the flow of information across applications, thereby significantly reducing the integration efforts for our customers.”

The Powered by SAP NetWeaver partner program was established to accommodate the needs of ISVs and system integrators by enabling them to create and certify solutions built upon the SAP NetWeaver platform. With nearly 200 companies certified to date and more than 600 ISVs committed to the program, SAP is helping software developers to not only leverage the application and integration capabilities of SAP NetWeaver but also to access the business opportunities found across more than 25,000 existing SAP customers.

“SAP is proud to be working with so many leading IT solution providers to help meet the industry-specific demands of our customers,” said Jim Hagemann Snabe, general manager, Industry Solutions, SAP AG. “The strength of this partner ecosystem demonstrates that partners and customers have identified SAP and SAP NetWeaver as the platform upon which they will build software solutions. Together, we look forward to delivering next-generation, industry-specific solutions that are industry-standard compliant, bring fast value and increase business flexibility and IT innovation for our customers.”
