RWE Thames Water Selects SAP to Spur Wave of Business Transformation |

LONDON, U.K. - October 31, 2005 - SAP AG (NYSE: SAP) today announced that RWE Thames Water, the world’s third largest water and wastewater service company, has chosen mySAP™ Business Suite to enable its companywide business process transformation. The company is deploying SAP’s suite solutions for 8,100 users across its operations in the United Kingdom and the United States, replacing a slate of legacy systems. The company will leverage the SAP NetWeaver® platform as the strategic foundation for business innovation by targeting efficiency gains across core processes from asset management to service delivery.
With current technology platforms nearing the end of their useful lives, RWE Thames Water conducted a comprehensive analysis of its core business processes to identify opportunities for improving service efficiency and effectiveness to its customers. Project teams in the United Kingdom and the United States identified four key areas for transformation—improving core business processes; making better use of enterprise data; strengthening corporate governance; and removing functional silos—and chose SAP as the best-suited solution provider to power its transformation.
In the first SAP rollout phase, RWE Thames Water is deploying enterprise resource planning (ERP) functionality to cover a slate of core processes including employee life-cycle management, finance, procurement, planning and controlling. This 15-month phase, beginning in October 2005, will see SAP’s ERP solution replacing software that is soon going out of support. In addition to improving efficiency and effectiveness of these functional areas, SAP software will help enhance corporate governance across the organization.
The second phase seeks to enable actionable insight on the wealth of data available in this asset-intensive organization. With SAP NetWeaver Business Intelligence and SAP Analytics, RWE Thames Water aims to improve intelligence gathering and decision-making around its asset base—to ensure that capital is being spent optimally on utility plant infrastructure. SAP’s business intelligence and preventive maintenance practices will help the company ensure cost-effective and continuous service delivery.
