Google SketchUp addresses some of the CAD needs of the construction industry, though its users also range from architects to video-game designers.
In November 2008, Google released SketchUp 7 (which is free) and SketchUp Pro 7 (which lists for $495). Both versions are available directly from the Google website.
Both editions include Dynamic Components. These 3-D models that know what they are and behave like the real-world objects they represent -- a dynamic staircase, for example, "knows" it is a staircase, and automatically adds or subtracts steps as the user changes its dimensions, according to Google.
